MAP and HR effects of unilateral microinjection of the NO donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP, 1.0 M) into the PVN of conscious rats (n = 6). SNP was injected before (open bars) and after (filled bars) blockade of GABAA receptors with bicuculline (Bic, 1 mM). SNP alone produced significant decreases in MAP, accompanied by tachycardia. Bic significantly attenuated the depressor effect of SNP (*p ≤ 0.05) without altering the tachycardia.
