Comparison of the calnuc HXXE zinc motif with consensus sequences of carboxypeptidase family of enzymes
Comparison of zinc binding motif (HXXEXnH) present in calnuc with the consensus sequences of carboxypeptidases is shown. The table shows the zinc binding motif, marked in bold, is conserved, whereas the sequence involved in the protease activity of carboxypeptidases is not conserved. Calnuc therefore binds Zn2+ but does not exhibit protease activity.
