Heterospecific complementation of an S. meliloti mucR mutant with the mucR gene from B. melitensis on LB plates containing calcofluor. The strains Rm1021 (wild type), Rm1021 exoY:Tn5 (non-EPS I-producing strain), Rm2011 (wild type), Rm101 (mucR mutant), and Rm101 pBBRmucRBm (mucR mutant carrying the wild-type mucR gene of B. melitensis 16M) were spotted in triplicate on LB medium containing 0.02% calcofluor and incubated at 30°C for 2 days before being subjected to UV light.
