F. oxysporum strain 11C was grown in minimal media [51] supplemented with (A) 10–100 mM glucose as the sole carbon source, or (B) 20 mM glucose as the carbon source and 0–6% ethanol. Flasks were inoculated with fungal spores (105 ml−1), plugged with sterile cotton wool and incubated at 30°C in a shaking incubator for 24 h at 150 rpm under dark and RNA was extracted from harvested mycelia. Hxt transcript accumulation was quantified relative to that of the housekeeping gene β-tubulin (FOXG_06228.2). Results are based on two experiments, each with three replicates per treatment. Bars indicate SEM (LSD0.05 A = 0.097; LSD0.05 B = 0.035).
