Physical properties of the nanobeacon. A) A well-dispersed solution of the nanobeacon was observed under fluorescence microscopy. An equal distribution of Coumarin 6 within the center core of the particle results in a homogenous fluorescence signal being emitted from each particle. B) Homogeneity was confirmed via transmission electron microscopy. C) and D) Where phantom optical imaging of the nanobeacon is obtained, the data show a linear relationship between concentration and fluorescence.
