CVB3 infection affects the erythroid lineage in BM and blood. Primary BM cells were isolated at the indicated times after an i.p. wt CVB3 infection with 104 PFU. No RBC lysis was carried out. Flow cytometry analysis was performed to determine the frequency (A) and number (B) of TER-119+ cells. (C) After gating on this specific population, cells were analyzed to enumerate immature (CD71+) and mature (CD71−) BM cells. (D) Blood was collected from infected and uninfected C57BL/6 mice, and RBC and reticulocyte counts were carried out. (E) Serum levels of erythropoietin were determined by ELISA.
