Peroperatively the rotator cuff rupture was seen in supraspinatus tendon in 94% versus 95% of patients. There was a significant difference in the size of the tendon rupture between the groups (P < 0.0001). The mean size (AP dimension) of penetrating tears was 24.2 mm (A) in the traumatic group and 17.5 mm (B) in the non-traumatic group. In the traumatic group the rupture involved more often the whole insertion area of supraspinatus tendon (41% versus 17%) (shaded area).
