Table 2. Morphological measurements of maxillary barbel regeneration.

After 14 days at the indicated treatments, barbel regeneration past the amputation plane was measured in millimeters (see Methods & Figure 1B). Boxplots of these data are graphed in Figures 5, 6 and 8, respectively.

A. fgf20a regeneration experiments at restrictive (33°C) and ‘permissive’ (28°C) temperatures
treatment genotype N mean regenerated
barbel length (mm)
range (mm) 95% CI of mean
33°C wild type 18 1.1 0.43 – 2.00 0.91 – 1.40
33°C fgf20azp3/zp3 13 1.2 0.46 – 1.70 0.95 – 1.40
28°C wild type 20 1.2 0.62 – 1.90 1.10 – 1.40
28°C fgf20azp3/zp3 14 1.1 0.52 – 1.70 0.94 – 1.40
B. dn-fgfr1 barbel regeneration experiments (HS = heat shock; NHS = no heat shock)
treatment genotype N mean regenerated
barbel length (mm)
range (mm) 95% CI of mean
HS wild type 14 1.50 0.83 – 2.00 1.30 – 1.70
HS dn-fgfr1 14 0.70 0.08 – 1.40 0.46 – 0.95
NHS dn-fgfr1 + wild type 30 1.70 0.92 – 2.10 1.60 – 1.80
C. dn-fgfr1 barbel and taste bud regeneration experiments (HS = heat shock)
treatment genotype N mean regenerated
barbel length (mm)
range (mm) 95% CI of mean
HS wild type 24 1.10 0.52 – 1.60 1.30 – 1.70
HS dn-fgfr1 26 0.57 0.10 – 1.10 0.47 – 0.67
