Empty circles correspond to a polygynous system, filled black circles correspond to a polyandrous system and grey circles correspond to the predicted ratio (as per equation (2.4)). The ratio C_M/C_P is generally higher in polyandrous systems than in polygynous systems. For low to moderate values of α, the prediction and actual ratios are generally in good agreement, but this breaks down as α increases.
