Inclusionary criteria
1) 20-55 years old; living in Mexico City metropolitan area
2) Relative (not by blood)
3) Admitted and treated for different reasons (pneumonia: Controls- I)
4) Admitted and treated for different reasons (ILI symptoms; Controls- II)
5) Negative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction assay on pandemic (AH1N1) strain
6) Range of Hemoglobin: 12.0 g/100 mL-16.0 g/100 mL
7) Range of Hematocrit: 38–48%
8) Body weight: indistinct; overweight (BMI > 25) preferred
Exclusionary criteria
1) Pregnancy or breastfeeding
2) H1N1 or seasonal influenza or pneumococcal vaccinations receiveda
3) VIH or auto-immune diseases
4) Hepatitis (any kind)
5) Allergies (any kind)
6) Medical treatment (any kind)
7) Use of toxicology substances (any kind)

aOne control –I received pneumococcal vaccine before sample was taken.
