The postcourse survey results demonstrated a significant increase in the students’ ability to understand the sections of a primary research paper and to read and interpret genomic literature (P = 0.003 and 0.006, respectively). Based on the postcourse survey results, students experienced only modest gains in their science writing skills that were not statistically significant.
