Downregulation of P-uptake capacity was calculated as the difference of the rate of P uptake from a standard 10 µm P solution for plants grown at the lower and that for plants grown at the higher P concentrations during growth. Phosphorus-remobilization efficiency was assessed for plants growing in their natural habitat. Data on P-uptake rates of Grevillea crithmifolia and Hakea prostrata were taken from the literature (Shane et al., 2004b; Shane and Lambers, 2006).
