(a) Sensitivity of both gold and silver nanoparticles conjugates. A color change was observed for silver solutions at 1nM DNA, and for gold nanoparticles at 2nM. (b) and (c) show the absorbance of the two systems between 1nM and10nM, in the systems transition region. Note that this difference in sensitivity is likely because the silver nanoparticles are kept at a lower concentration while still providing a similar optical signal, a factor of the higher optical cross section of silver.
