P-body formation is induced by furfural and HMF in S. cerevisiae. Cells in an exponential phase of growth in SD medium were treated with furfural (10 to 40 mM) or HMF (10 to 70 mM) at 30°C for 30 min or subjected to glucose deprivation stress (-Glc) for 15 min. The assembly of P-bodies was examined with Dcp2-GFP (A) and Dcp1-GFP (B). The white bar indicates 5 μm. BF, bright field. At least 150 cells under each condition were examined.
