FIG. 2.

A scheme describing the construction of a bilayer affinity-binding alginate scaffold. Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β1) and bone morphogenic protein-4 (BMP-4) were affinity-bound to alginate sulfate in macroporous alginate scaffolds. After cell seeding and a culture of 2 days (A), the seeded scaffolds were combined together by their assembly on a stainless steel pin placed perpendicular to a supporting poly(dimethyl siloxane) layer (B).
