A principal component analysis on chemical compounds was made, in which the explanatory power of the concentrations of these compounds on the AOA and AOB amoA gene abundances and diversities was established. Statistical analysis was performed using the Statistica 9 program (Statsoft Inc., Tulsa, OK, USA).
