TATEGFP-CART mainly localized in the mitochondria. Cultured HEK293 cells were treated overnight with TATEGFP-CART or TATEGFP (control) fusion proteins, and then treated with the mitochondria marker MitoTracker Red for 30 min. Living cells were analyzed by a confocal microscopy. A-C, confocal fluorescence images depict cells treated with TATEGFP-CART fusion proteins; and D-F, cells treated with vehicle TATEGFP fusion proteins (control). Pixels containing fluorescence for both GFP (green) and the red (mitochondria) appear as yellow in the merged images, indicating co-localization. TATEGFP-CART (C) was preferentially localized into mitochondria compared to TATEGFP (F) [11].
