Cholinergic denervation after murine p75NTR saporin (Sap) lesions of the basal forebrain in wild type (WT) and APP/PS1 mice. There is reduction of choline acetyltransferase immunostaining (red) in the medial septum at 2 weeks after the lesion compared to vehicle-treated (Sham) mice; γ-aminobutyric acid–releasing (GABAergic) neurons indicated by parvalbumin immunostaining (green) appear preserved.
