Cross sections through the corpus mucosa were stained immunohistochemically with antibodies for CK18, TRPM5, and gustducin. Numbers of immunoreactive cells were counted in defined fields (corpus/fundus transition: n = 16; esophagal orifice: n = 15) of the most proximal corpus mucosa underneath the “limiting ridge” at the greater curvature, separately to the esophagal orifice. To define the percentage of immunolabeled cells per fields, the total number of DAPI-labeled nuclei was counted. For cell quantification values are given as mean ± SD.
