Schematic representation of orthologous approach with microarray analyses to identify ALI-associated candidate genes. Previously reported expression profiling analyses from murine, rat, and canine ALI models as well as from human endothelium exposed to mechanical stretch were analyzed to generate the orthologous gene profiles to a human array. Significantly upregulated or downregulated genes were extracted using an overlap analysis followed by gene ontology classification of the narrowed gene set.⁷⁷
