Table 2.

Immunohistochemical quantification of epithelial cell types in guinea pig tracheas and intra-lobar small bronchioles.a

a

Steady-state non-SPF guinea pig lungs were used in this study. Values represent the mean ± SD (standard deviation) from eighteen independent stained samples from six animals. At least 1000 cells were evaluated for each sample.

b

The epithelia of first three cartilage rings and the last three cartilage rings of tracheas were evaluated as proximal and distal parts of trachea in this study, respectively.

c

IHC staining of CCSP positive cells.

d

Intra-lobar small bronchiolar epithelium.

e

Small bronchiolar epithelium negative for K14 (basal cell marker).
