Influence of nitrate, in the absence of Na⁺, upon the membrane potential (V_m) of oocytes expressing human and rabbit NBCe1-A. Representative V_m traces gathered from oocytes that were injected with either H₂O (A), cRNA encoding human NBCe1-A-EGFP (B), or cRNA encoding rabbit NBCe1-A (C). Cells were initially bathed in a Na⁺-free ND96 solution and the V_m of each cell was continuously monitored as each cell was exposed to 33 mM NO₃⁻ in the continued absence of Na⁺.
