(A) dsRNA is covalently attached to the gold particle via thiol bonds; after a laser pulse, the bond is broken and dsRNA is released. (B) The sense strand of the oligonucleotide is bound to the surface of the gold particle; after a laser pulse, the antisense strand of the oligonucleotide is freed.
