The distribution of nerve fibers in these five micron sections was determined by immunostaining for the nerve marker, tyrosine dydroxylase. Sympathetic nerve fiber density in the HMI + NGF group (A) was significantly higher than those in HMI group (B) and Ctrl group (C). Nerve regeneration and proliferation were observed in the HMI group, but they were not significantly different from the Ctrl group. Nerve fiber distribution was increased, in the HMI + NGF group, suggesting that sympathetic hyperinnervation occurred in the healed-infarct ventricle after NGF treatment.
