Hyperpolarizing and depolarizing effects of 5-HT in layer V pyramidal neurons of medial prefrontal cortex slices from mice. (A) Focal (local) application of 5-HT (100 μM) elicited a hyperpolarizing response which was blocked by the 5-HT_1A antagonist WAY 100635 (30 nM), suggesting the expression of 5-HT_1A receptors. (B) Focal application of 5-HT (100 μM) elicited a depolarizing response which was blocked by the 5-HT_2A antagonist MDL 11939 (500 nM), suggesting the expression of 5-HT_2A receptors.
