AglR-pamCherry decorates helical macrostructures. SIM images of two typical fixed aglR::pamCherry cells are shown. For each cell, the surface sections are displayed, in which void areas are encircled by helical fluorescence. The distance between adjacent nodes of the helices (half of helical pitch) was 0.67 ± 0.25 μm. Traces of the helical macrostructures are shown on a magnified section of each cell. (Scale bar, 1 μm.)
