Transcript levels of putative PCD-related proteins after treatment of T. gondii with pro-apoptotic stimuli. Parasites were treated with staurosporine (Stau) or miltefosine (HePC), or were mock-treated for 24 h (cross-hatched bars) and 48 h (black bars). After RNA isolation and reverse transcription, cDNA was amplified by quantitative real-time PCR using primers specific for putative cell-death related genes and actin of T. gondii. Results are expressed as the mean ratio (x-fold) ± SEM of the mRNA after treatment as compared to freshly isolated, untreated parasites normalized to actin; data is from three independent experiments
