The Effects of Ammonium Chloride. To determine the effect of ammonium chloride on nuclear transport (Figure A) and total internalization (Figure B), cultured CHO cell monolayers were treated with serum-free medium containing 5 μg/mL 125I-labeled peptide for 2 hours at 37 °C in the absence (solid bars) and presence (open bars) of 50 mM NH4Cl. The nuclear and total intracellular accumulation was determined as described in the Material and Methods section. The bars represent the average of triplicate sample measurements, the errors bars are the standard deviation, and bars marked with an asterisk indicates a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) in comparison to results obtained from the non-treated (control) cells.
