Nuc promotes bacterial survival in a mouse model of peritonitis. Mice were infected intraperitoneally with ∼5 × 107 WT LAC or nuc mutant bacteria for 8 h. Peritoneum (A), kidney (B), and heart (C) bacterial burdens were enumerated.
