SPI-19 T6SS does not contribute to Salmonella-induced cell death of infected macrophages. RAW264.7 and HD11 macrophages were infected with either the wild-type or ΔSPI-19 mutant strain, and gentamicin protection assays were performed. After 20 h postuptake, cytotoxicity was evaluated by LDH release, and cell death by was determined by propidium iodide incorporation and cell cycle analysis of infected macrophages. NI, noninfected.
