The mitochondrial biogenesis pathway is altered in AD brains. mRNA from frozen hippocampal samples was isolated, and endogenous PGC-1α, NRF-1, and L-IDE transcript levels were determined by RT-qPCR. A strong positive correlation was observed in controls (ND) (upper panels) between PGC-1α or NRF-1 and L-IDE in contrast to AD (lower panels) in which the correlation decreased.
