Pelleted cell phantoms for qualitative MRI (GRE sequence: TR=50 msec; TE=10.00 msec; flip angle=9°). Phantom studies demonstrated that the spatial extent of T2*-weighted image contrast (the region of signal reduction due to magnetic susceptibility) increased with increasing superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) nanoparticle incubation concentrations from 0 to 100 pg/cell. All samples contained 4.0×106 natural killer (NK) cells.
