Cells of S. pyogenes SF370 were challenged with dansyl-polymyxin B (10 μM), fluorescent vancomycin stained to visualize cell wall and subjected to the red protease assay, which monitors cleavage of BODIPY TR-X-casein by the SpeB protease. Stained cells were then examined by fluorescent microscopy.
