Impact of preanalytical factors on MALDI-TOF MS identification. Shown are the results of MALDI-TOF MS analysis of 28 common isolates after incubation at different temperatures (A), growth on different types of media (B), and daily subculture for up to 5 days (C). The number of correctly identified isolates was calculated using decreasing cutoff values between ≥2.0 and ≥1.7 for acceptable genus- and species-level identification. There were no statistical differences between isolates identified at different temperatures or off different media.
