AKT phosphorylation, total AKT levels, and S6 phosphorylation at S235 and S240 were measured by western blotting of samples from each of the four treatment groups (control, Huaier-treated for 72 hours, starvation+EGF stimulation, starvation+EGF stimulation+Huaier for 60 hours). The numbers on the protein bands represent the fold changes, with the basal levels in the control or starvation +EGF groups assigned a value of 1.0.
