Overproduction and cellular localization of the PelN protein in E. coli. Whole-cell lysates of BL21(DE3)/pNA13 before induction (E1) and after induction with IPTG (E2). Fractions extracted from IPTG-induced cells: soluble (S), insoluble (I), and periplasmic fractions obtained by osmotic shock (P) or by a variation of this method (Ps). The proteins were separated by SDS-PAGE and stained with Coomassie blue. The positions of the molecular mass standards are indicated.
