Five metabolic pathways are active during meiosis when acetate serves as the external carbon source: glutamate formation, TCA cycle, glyoxylate cycle, gluconeogenesis, and glycogenolysis. Metabolites in these pathways are utilized to synthesize macromolecules: nucleotides, amino acids, and lipids.
