Overview of the tissue engineering approach. ASCs were isolated from canine adipose tissue, combined with a growth factor (e.g., PDGF-BB), and incorporated into a layered HBDS/nanofiber scaffold. The scaffold was then implanted at the site of the flexor tendon repair, providing autologous ASCs and/or a growth factor for enhanced healing. (Dashed arrows indicates optional addition).
