Wild type E. coli cells were exposed to 10 μM and 100 μM ZnSO4, and the transcript levels of each gene were measured by RT-PCR at various time points after zinc exposure. The transcription level of mdtC (a) and baeR (b) increased to 7-fold and 2-fold at 30 min, respectively. The mRNA of spy (c) and acrD (d) exhibited biphasic increases up to 48-fold and 17-fold at 30 min, respectively.
