Active DNA demethylation at specific loci. Active DNA demethylation may generate a chromatin environment that permits transcription at loci including genes, TEs, and intergenic regions. As an example, ROS1-mediated demethylation is required for active transcription of the transgene PRD29A:LUC, which is otherwise silenced by RdDM that requires RDM1 (Gao et al. 2010).
