Deformation and recovery across time of poked SOM particles. Before poking (prepoke), the particle morphology can be approximately described as a spherical cap. At higher RH (40–70%) (A–C), geometries approximately described as half-torus are formed, and flow occurs. By comparison, for low RH (≤30%) (D) particles shatter and do not flow over a period of 8 h. The ring structures observed in the first and last columns are an optical effect that arises from hemispherical diffraction.
