Side population phenotype versus cancer stem cell marker expression in colorectal cancer (CRC) cell lines. (A): CRC cell lines were stained with Hoechst 33342, and percentages of side population (SP) were evaluated in comparison with cells stained in the presence of verapamil (supplemental online Fig. 3A). (B): Hoechst-stained cells were counterstained with CD133-, CD166-, CD44-, and CD24-specific antibodies. Percentages of SP within unsorted cell lines; gated CD133+, CD166+CD44+, or CD24+CD44+ subsets; and their negative counterparts were assessed.
