Type I p53 dysfunctions were found to be associated with the most recurrent pattern of TP53 mutations, i.e. heterozygous and missense mutations generating transitions, mainly located in the DNA binding domain. In contrast, type II and III p53 dysfunctions were related to a more complex pattern of TP53 mutations, highlighted by a higher incidence of homozygous and nonsense mutation as well as microdeletions and transversions.
