Assignment of embryos to the three groups (EE, IE or LE) was based on size range and on morphological criteria detailed in this table (see Figure 1A for exemplary microphotographs). The developmental stages were defined according to Miura et al.[13]. Larval stages were determined according to the development time after laying.
