Three CD11b⁺ myeloid populations expressing different levels of Gr1 (Gr1^low, Gr1^mid and Gr1^high) were observed in the metastatic liver microenvironment. Metastatic tumor cells secrete CCL2, hence recruiting CCR2-expressing Gr1^mid cells from the bone marrow. Cells sharing features with such Gr1^mid myeloid population (CD11b⁺CCR2⁺) were found in metastatic liver tissues from some colorectal cancer patients (inset).
