Cellulose and matrix polysaccharide contents for the 20 lignin mutants (n = 8) and wild-type (n = 16) (± SD) were expressed as percentage CWR. Matrix polysaccharide content was determined gravimetrically based on a TFA extraction and its composition was expressed as mol%. Xylan branching frequency and the percentage methylation of GlcA were determined by DASH. GlcA: glucuronic acid.
