In the vertical section, glutamate AMPA receptors GluR2/3 and GluR4 (green) were located underneath the rod/cone synapses labeled by SV2 antibodies (red) (A and B). In the wholemount retina, GluR2/3 appeared as discrete puncta associated with rod/cone synapses (C), but GluR4 formed clustered puncta mostly centered in the middle of cone pedicles (D).
