Projections from the PrL cortex to the NAc core regulates the expression of cocaine-seeking behavior (indicated by green arrows) while projections from the IfL cortex to the NAc shell regulates the expression of extinction behavior (indicated by red arrows). Recent studies have also implicated the involvement of other brain regions such as the hippocampus, MDH, and BLA in the neurocircuitry of extinction of drug-seeking behavior.
