The concentration of capsular polysaccharide was measured in the broth at the end of the experiment after 24 h of growth. Y_K4/X indicates mg of K4 CPS produced per g of dry cells. Y_K4/S indicates mg of K4 CPS produced per g of carbon source consumed. μmax indicates the maximum specific growth rate in h^-1. The values are averages of at least 4 separate experiments with a standard deviation below 10%. Abbreviations: Glu (Glucose), Gly (Glycerol), Ye (Yeast extract).
