Effects on invasion and migration of MCF-7 cells in vitro. Cells were starved for 4 h and then seeded and incubated for 20 h without or with addition of either 1 μm wild-type cystatin C or 1 μm E64d. Cells attached to the lower surface of the insert membrane were stained and dissolved in acetic acid. The absorbance of the solution was then measured.
